The Government of Sierra Leone is intensifying efforts to strengthen the creative sector with the development of the country’s first-ever National Film Policy. On Friday, the Ministry of Information and Civic Education (MOICE) and the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs (MoTCA) convened a high-level bilateral meeting to accelerate progress on this landmark initiative.
The session, co-chaired by Minister of Information and Civic Education Chernor Bah and Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs Nabeela Tunis, focused on aligning strategies for coordinated implementation and shared ownership of the policy, which is widely expected to transform Sierra Leone’s emerging film industry.
Officials underscored the policy’s potential to, boost the creative economy, create jobs, particularly for young people, attract both domestic and international investment, showcase Sierra Leone’s rich cultural heritage to the world
This policy is not just about film, it’s about identity, economy, and opportunity, said Minister Bah. It will lay the foundation for a thriving industry that tells Sierra Leonean stories and supports Sierra Leonean talent.

The two ministries agreed on key next steps, including, finalizing a regulatory framework to guide the sector, rolling out nationwide stakeholder consultations, launching awareness and promotional campaigns, establishing mechanisms for policy implementation and oversight
Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to building a dynamic, inclusive, and resilient film sector that empowers local creatives while strengthening Sierra Leone’s cultural footprint on the African continent and beyond.
The National Film Policy is expected to be formally launched later this year, signaling a bold new chapter for the arts and cultural industries in Sierra Leone.
