The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Alhaji Timothy Musa Kabba, officially opened the Republic of Sierra Leone Embassy in Qatar on behalf of President Bio on February 18th 2025.
The Minister expressed gratitude to the Qatari authorities for their unwavering support, underscoring that this represents a new chapter in the cooperative relationship between the two nations. He emphasized Sierra Leone’s commitment to enhancing collaboration in trade, education, healthcare, and multilateral initiatives.
Addressing the Qatari officials gathered at the new embassy, Minister Kabba noted Sierra Leone’s recently been elected to the United Nations Security Council, which was achieved with assistance from Qatar. He underscored the country’s resilience and progress since the end of its civil war, affirming its dedication to justice and advocacy for the rights of those affected in Gaza.
“Both Sierra Leone and Qatar advocate for a two-state solution and stress the importance of prioritizing the needs of the affected populations.” During his speech, Minister Kabba stated that the embassy’s opening as a significant milestone in fostering stronger bilateral ties, particularly in trade and investment. He also pointed out that Sierra Leone’s rich human resources, supported by initiatives like free quality education, are crucial for the nation’s development.
