Sierra Leone Ambassador to Algeria Hosts Journalist for Cultural Documentary Talks
  • By Emma Black

His Excellency Alhaji Brima Elvis Koroma, Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Algeria, engaged in a one-on-one discussion with Madam Chahinaz Gherbi, a prominent journalist from the Russia Today International Channel, at the Sierra Leone Embassy in Algiers.

On Sunday, September 21, 2025, the meeting, facilitated by the embassy’s media unit, centered on a proposal from a 15-member Algerian media delegation, led by Madam Gherbi, to visit Sierra Leone and produce a 52-minute documentary exploring the nation’s language, culture, traditions, tourism, agriculture, trade, sports, and natural resources.

The initiative aims to reshape the global narrative around Africa under the theme Africa, the Continent of the Future, countering the often negative stereotypes perpetuated by Western media.

This documentary seeks to highlight Sierra Leone’s vast potential and rich cultural heritage, fostering a platform for collaboration between Algeria and Sierra Leone to promote the continent’s strengths and deepen bilateral ties.

Madam Gherbi concluded the discussion by proposing a two-week visit to Sierra Leone, scheduled to begin on October 15, 2025, with the team returning by the end of the month. She expressed the delegation’s intent to meet key figures, including the Chief Minister, the Foreign Affairs Minister, and other Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) alongside stakeholders, to explore collaborative opportunities.

In response, Ambassador Koroma expressed gratitude for the visit and the forward-thinking proposal, praising the opportunity to showcase Sierra Leone’s cultural wealth and untapped resources.

Drawing on his extensive historical insight, he outlined the African continent’s subregional dynamics, particularly the cultural similarities between Sierra Leone and Guinea despite their Francophone and Anglophone divides a pattern also seen in Ghana-Togo and The Gambia-Senegal pairings.

He assured the team that they would receive a detailed map during their visit to identify key cultural sites, strengthening ties with Algeria. The meeting ended warmly, with Ambassador Koroma presenting a gift to Madam Gherbi as she bid farewell to him and his staff.
