the vibrant youths of the Car Wash community in Shellmingo, Bo, successfully concluded a three-day consultation and engagement carnival aimed at combating the growing threat of Kush, a dangerous synthetic drug increasingly affecting young people in Sierra Leone.
On May 12, 2025, the well-attended event brought together a wide range of participants, including community leaders, local authorities, health professionals, and youth advocates, all united in the fight against substance abuse. The initiative was designed to raise awareness, educate the public, and provide alternatives for at-risk youth.
Isiaka Marveh, a key speaker at the event, praised the effort as a critical wake-up call for stakeholders across Bo District and the country as a whole. He emphasized that such grassroots initiatives are among the most effective strategies to support national anti-drug campaigns and safeguard the future of young people.
The carnival featured a dynamic mix of musical performances, street theatre, dialogue sessions, and educational outreach, all aimed at highlighting the dangers of Kush and promoting healthier, more productive lifestyles. Discussions also focused on youth employment opportunities, vocational training, and mental health support as sustainable solutions to the drug crisis. The event concluded with a renewed call for collaboration between communities and government agencies to tackle drug abuse and empower the next generation.
