On 6th January, 2024, the Safe Space SL organized the first cohort reunion for girls at Aberdeen Beach in Freetown.

Safe Space Sierra Leone Community Girls Circle is an initiative that seeks to create a world where women and girls are protected from discrimination and violence. They also provide comprehensive sexual reproductive health education and services that are inclusive and accessible through their community girls’ circle.

Speaking during the ceremony, Madam Adeola Carew, chief executive officer of the organization, talked on the importance of the occasion, noting that, as a body, they focus on empowering girls in different communities.

She added that they provide skills, education, leadership, and problem-solving ideas, including sexual reproductive and vocational trainings. “We are always open to allow anyone to come on board to teach our girls in different things and we’re also focusing on extending this organisation to the provinces wherein we will also be bringing boys as well as the parents,” she stated.

Xenobia Kargbo, president of the organization talked on sexual reproductive health and promoting girls’ leadership. She said that girls also have the right to become leaders in any society. She later encouraged them on their self-esteem and to see that they leave up to expectations. She ended up by telling them about their right and duties as girls whiles calling on the general public for sponsorship and support so that they will continue empowering more girls.

In an interview with Expo Times, one of the cohorts, Princess Haja Conteh expressed her appreciation and excitement to the organisation for the empowerment opportunity. “Through this organization, I have been able to know how to build up my self-esteem and how to respect people in society. On that note, I am kindly encouraging my colleague girls to join us so that we will be as one family in our different communities,” she expressed.

Daphine William, another cohort, said since she joined the organisation, she has become bold, especially in public speaking and how to maintain human respect,  including how to behave  to colleagues in a society.
