On April 29, 2025, the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) announced an ongoing investigation into a serious allegation of a sexual offence involving a member of its ranks, underscoring its commitment to upholding justice and human rights within the military.
In a statement released by the RSLAF, the Military Police Regiment (MPR) was notified of the complaint on April 22, 2025, triggering an immediate response from military authorities. The RSLAF has pledged to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation to establish the facts surrounding the incident.
We have launched a comprehensive investigation to uncover the truth of this matter, said Major Yayah Brima, Media Operations Officer at Army Headquarters, Cockerill Barracks. The RSLAF takes such allegations with the utmost seriousness and is committed to ensuring accountability.
The RSLAF reiterated its dedication to fostering a safe and equitable environment for all personnel. As an institution deeply committed to upholding human rights and the principles of justice, we stand steadfast in our duty to protect all men and women serving in the Armed Forces, Major Brima emphasized.
