Kabala appeals for buses

By Yusuf Ibrahim Kamara

The central lorry park at Kabala town which is jointly the management of the Motor Drivers’ Union and the Koinadugu District Council has been the centre for minibuses and other private vehicles. Passengers travelling to and from the district converge to catch up the next available vehicle, but limited number of government buses flying from Kabala to Freetown root around the clock tower most times leave early, normally leaving passengers at the mercy of private vehicle owners.

The transportation fare, the over loading of passengers, among others inconveniences, remain very challenging for them.

Latest needed development is the rehabilitation of the park, so that they will have a spacious parking lot. This is believed to address the issues of having insufficient buses.

Mohamed Jabbie, Chairman of Koinadugu Motor Drivers’ Union, in an interview said that lots of strategies have been made to change the narrative. He disclosed that drivers are only obliged to pay a little amount to the union, saying it is an agreement to support themselves.

Speaking to Hassan Kafoe, a passenger, he pleaded with the government for more facilities and more buses to be in Kabala to ease transport constraints.

Sara Barrie, a driver, appreciated the management of the lorry park and the union’s approach in the collection of revenue.
