Pharmacy Board of Sierra Leone (PBSL) in collaboration with the Medical and Dental Council, Sierra Leone Nurses and Midwives Council has conducted raids on illegal clinics, quack doctors, and drug peddlers in Kono District.
It could be noted that, a few weeks ago, the Office of National Security alerted the Pharmacy Board and the above-mentioned health regulatory Agencies of suspected illegal clinics and the presence of drug peddlers in specific communities within Kono District. In response, PBSL and the said agencies conducted a three-day intensive raid on the suspected communities.
The team, which comprised 4 senior regulatory officers from the Pharmacy Board and representatives of the other agencies, was able to apprehend one Miss Finda Komba, who has been illegally running a clinic and administering drugs including intravenous injections to the people within the Small Sefadu Village and its environs in contravention to the Pharmacy and Drugs Act 2001. She was taken to Tankoro Police Division in Koidu Town to help with the investigation. The team also conducted several raids on the major markets and towns within the Kono District in search of drug peddlers.
Added to the above, the team met with major stakeholders in the District including the Heads of both the City and District Councils, the Police, the District Medical Officer and explained the need for collaboration in the fight against drug peddling and illegal medical practices in the District. The Stakeholders expressed delight for such a venture by the Pharmacy Board and the other Agencies it collaborated with. They later assured the team of their commitment to the fight against drug peddling and other illegal medical practices in that part of the country.
