The Regional Commander for Freetown West, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Sylvester M.N. Koroma, has taken decisive action to de-escalate rising tensions between students of Prince of Wales and Albert Academy Secondary Schools, following alarming social media posts hinting at planned violence.
AIG Koroma, supported by senior officers, conducted a coordinated visit to both schools alongside Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) John Fayiah Tumbay, Local Unit Commander of the Central Police Division, and Mr. Simeon Bai Sesay, a representative of the Provincial Security Committee (PROSEC). Addressing the students directly, AIG Koroma delivered a firm warning that any participation in violence, whether on or off campus, would lead to thorough police investigations and potential prosecution. He encouraged students to resist peer pressure, report threats, and prioritize education and discipline over conflict.
To ensure safety, the Regional Commander announced an increased police presence around the schools to prevent further unrest, stressing the value of non-violence, discipline, and partnership between schools and law enforcement in maintaining a secure learning environment. In discussions with school staff, he proposed reviving anti-violence clubs as a proactive measure to curb future incidents and strictly condemned the possession of weapons or illicit substances on school grounds, promising swift disciplinary and legal action against offenders.
The Sierra Leone Police underscored that this intervention reflects their dedication to safeguarding young people, preventing school-related violence, and promoting safer communities across the region.
