The leadership of the Freetown International Airport has made a gracious Ramadan donation to stakeholders of Kaffu Bullom Chiefdom, Lungi. The event which was held on Saturday March 30th, 2024 attracted stakeholders from all sections of Kaffu Bullom including the Paramount Chief, Member of Parliament, Hon. PC Bai Shebora Sheba Gbereh 111 and was held at the chiefdom’s Community Centre at Masoila.
The donation among other things aims to support the various Masjids in the chiefdom in observing specifically the last ten days of Ramadan where the night of power is believed to be inherent.
Speaking at the event, PC Bai Shebora Sheba Gbereh 111 underscored the significant contributions which the airport had made for the people of Kaffu Bullom. He used the opportunity to thank and appreciate the leadership of government, President Julius Maada Bio and Vice President, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh for making sure that the airport was not relocated. He said that the donation by the Airport leadership came at the right time and that the people were grateful for the gesture.
Country Director Summa Group, Ibrahim Sheriff said that the airport has decided to implement the result driven gestures of government, adding that giving back to society is part of their corporate social responsibility. He said that as a management, they have a strong responsibility to work with the people of Kaffu Bullom and the government of Sierra Leone.
General Manager of the Airport, Senol Corlu said that the donation was an informed decision which aims at helping Muslim worshippers during Ramadan. He said that his leadership will continue to work with the stakeholders and people of Lungi to make sure that results are achieved.
Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Hon. Abdul Kargbo who is also representing a constituent of Lungi people, Port Loko District said that the donation was a generous one, but urged the Airport leadership to do more. He said that the provision of scholarships should also be taken into consideration, noting that such was something that had been happening before now. He urged the Airport leadership to work well with the people of Lungi, adding that such will make things better for all and sundry.
Member of Parliament of government also representing a constituent in Lungi, Sheikh Abdulai Kargbo said that the Airport has done well for the people of Lungi. He added that such donations should be happening more often as the people were looking forward to same.
Chiefdom Imams and stakeholders in Kaffu Bullom appreciated the gesture and expressed willingness to judiciously utilize same. They hoped that the Airport leadership will continue to consider the people of Kaffu Bullom, adding that such will be a step in the right direction.
One Hundred Bags of Rice, Twenty-Five Bags of Sugar, Five Rubbers of Cooking Oil and a cash of Fifty Thousand Leones (Le 50,000) was distributed among the Chiefdom Imams and stakeholders of Kaffu Bullom Chiefdom.
