A senior officer of the Airport presidential guard unit, officer Moses Kabba, was fatally shot early Wednesday morning, 26 November 2025, at the presidential Terminal of the Freetown International Airport in Lungi, the suspected shooter, identified as corporal Steven, reportedly fled the scene and remains at large.

According to preliminary accounts from airport security personnel, the fatal incident stemmed from a heated disagreement over the sharing of token money traditionally given to members of the Presidential guard during the arrivals and departures of senior government officials.

Witnesses say the vice president offered a monetary token to the guards before his departure earlier in the morning, corporal Steven allegedly accused officer Kabba of withholding funds meant to be shared among the team, the dispute reportedly escalated into a confrontation, during which the suspect drew his weapon and shot the commander.

Sources also indicate that similar tensions surfaced the previous day when president Julius Maada Bio returned from an official visit to Angola and provided a token to the unit, several guards reportedly complained that officer Kabba did not distribute the funds fairly a recurring concern within the unit over the years.

The Expo Times contacted sources at the Lungi Airport, who confirmed there had been a dispute among some military personnel regarding the distribution of money, one source described rising frustrations that created disagreement that led to the killing of the commander.

Following the shooting, the remains of officer Kabba were transported to the Military hospital in Freetown for further examination and official procedures.

The Sierra Leone police, Military police, and airport authorities have launched a joint investigation and intensified security around the airport as they work to apprehend the suspect.
