President Bio cutting the tape to declare the Maternal Centre of Excellence in Kono Open

President Julius Maada Bio on Saturday 26th October, 2025  commissioned the newly constructed Maternal Centre of Excellence in Kono, marking a step forward in improving maternal healthcare. This is a great initiative to foster safe childbirth for women in that part of the country.

According to breaking news released by Expo Salone Blog, moments after the commissioning, this state-of-the-art facility in Kono symbolizes hope and determination to support women and families, ensuring better health outcomes in that part of the country.

President Bio reaffirmed his government’s dedication to ensuring that “ every woman deserves safe chirdbirth and every child a healthy start in life”. President Bio noted that the work is far from over adding that the new centre will serve as a corner storne for further improvements in women’s and children’s health outcomes, as over the years, Sierra Leone has achieved significant progress, reducing maternal mortality by an impressive 70 per cent.

“This centre represents our collective determination to provide world-class healthcare to mothers and families, especially in underserved regions like Kono. Together we are building a stronger, healthier Sierra Leone”, said President Bio

President Bio concluded that this state-of-the art  facility in Kono symbolises our hope and determination to support women and families , ensuring better outcomes.
