President Julius Maada Bio has on February 12th, 2024, appointed popular Sierra Leonean rapper Alhaji Amadu Bah commonly known as ‘LAJ’ or ‘King Boss LA’ as Peace Ambassador.
“Your duties include, among other things: assist in the promotion of peace, reconciliation and unit in Sierra Leone, and peace related matters abroad; assist in building peace culture, enhance tolerance and support peaceful resolution of conflict; any other duty assigned by His Excellency the President from time to time,” says the appointment letter from the Office of the President, signed by Secretary to the President, Dr. Julius Sandy.
In his acceptance statement, LAJ said he is “deeply honoured and humbled to accept the role of Peace Ambassadorship for Sierra Leone”.
“I recognize the immense responsibility that comes with this position and I am committed to upholding the values of peace, reconciliation, and unity in the region. As you may know, Sierra Leone holds a special place in my heart, and I am eager to contribute to its continued progress and stability.
I will work tirelessly to foster dialogue and understanding among all communities, promoting tolerance and respect for diversity. Building upon the country’s rich cultural heritage, I aim to engage with local leaders and grassroots organizations to address underlying social and economic issues. Together, we can create a brighter future for generations to come.
I am grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside dedicated individuals who share a common vision for a peaceful Sierra Leone. Let us embark on this journey together, guided by compassion, empathy, and a steadfast commitment to lasting peace. With determination and perseverance, we can overcome any challenges that may arise along the way,” he said.
The rapper noted that Sierra Leone is all Sierra Leoneans have should therefore work for its good and development by embracing peace, love and togetherness.
He thanked President Bio for “entrusting me with this important role, and I look forward to making meaningful contributions to the people of Sierra Leone”.
The rapper and leader of the musical entity ‘Red Flag Movement’ was pardoned by President Bio on January 1st this year as he was serving a 9-year sentence at the main correctional canter in Freetown. He was among those inmates who voluntarily turned themselves in after the November 26th 2023 incident when the said prison facility was attacked by armed persons, forcefully and unlawfully releasing inmates.
LAJ and Kao Denero, arguably the two most popular rappers in the country, are now serving in the Bio led administration. Kao Denero, the leader of the musical group ‘Black Leo’ is the country’s Entertainment Ambassador while his arch-rival, LAJ, is now a Peace Ambassador; all of them appointment by President Bio.
