President Julius Maada Bio has called for enhanced global cooperation in agricultural innovation during his keynote address at the OpenAg Symposium. Held in Freetown, the symposium brought together leading experts, policymakers, and agricultural stakeholders to explore new ways of ensuring food security through technological advancements and sustainable farming practices.

In his speech, President Bio emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships to modernize agriculture, boost productivity, and tackle climate-related challenges. “Agriculture is the backbone of our economy, and in the face of climate change, we must leverage technology and innovation to transform this vital sector,” he stated.

The president also highlighted Sierra Leone’s efforts to support farmers with better tools, access to finance, and capacity-building programs. He urged global partners to invest in sustainable agriculture, which will empower smallholder farmers and enhance food security across Africa.

Experts at the symposium discussed emerging trends in precision farming, the use of Agricultural Innovation in crop management, and the role of renewable energy in reducing agriculture’s carbon footprint. The event underscored the need for continued international collaboration to advance agricultural technologies and practices that promote resilience in the face of environmental and economic challenges.

President Bio’s call for stronger global partnerships resonated with attendees, as many recognized the urgent need to transform agriculture not only for economic growth but also to combat food insecurity exacerbated by climate change.
