A tragic ambulance accident near the river Rokel on Tuesday, 25 November 2025, has claimed the lives of a pregnant woman and a respected pharmacist from Mile 91, sending shockwaves through communities across Tonkolili district.
According to reports from Magburaka, the ambulance was transporting the pregnant woman from Mile 91 to the Magburaka government hospital when it was involved in a fatal collision close to the Rokel River. Details surrounding the cause of the crash remain unclear.
Mr. Salieu, a well-known pharmacist and owner of a local drug store in Mile 91, was confirmed dead at the scene, his body was later transferred to the mortuary at the Magburaka government hospital, community members remembered him as a committed health professional who served residents with compassion, dedication and reliability.
The pregnant woman also tragically lost her life as a result of the crash, her identity had not been officially released at the time of publication, but sources say authorities are working to notify her relatives.
The condition of the ambulance driver remains unknown as investigations continue, police and hospital authorities have yet to issue an official statement, but preliminary inquiries are underway, residents are urging swift action to determine what went wrong and to ensure stronger safety measures for emergency medical transport in the region.
The incident has reignited concerns about road safety, particularly along rural routes where ambulances and other emergency vehicles often face challenging conditions.
