The Political Parties’ Regulation Commission (PPRC) has officially commended the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) for their outstanding role in safeguarding peace and stability during the recently concluded lower-level elections of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), which were conducted across the country.

In a statement released on Monday, 30 June 2025, the executive secretary of the PPRC, Mr. Olushogo A. David, praised the professionalism, commitment, and vigilance demonstrated by the police throughout the electoral process, the commendation, issued on behalf of the commission, emphasized the SLP’s vital contribution to maintaining security for election officials, party members, political stakeholders, and the general public.

The SLP’s proactive presence and measured responses were instrumental in deterring potential disruptions and promoting a peaceful democratic exercise, Mr. David noted, the PPRC gave special recognition to Regional Police commanders and their teams for their collaborative and coordinated efforts during the nationwide elections, their effective crowd control, swift response mechanisms, and community engagement strategies were described as exemplary and essential to the success of the polls.

Their professionalism and cooperation helped resolve challenges on the ground, and we deeply appreciate their dedication to duty, the statement added, this latest acknowledgment underscores the crucial role the Sierra Leone Police continues to play in the country’s democratic development, the PPRC reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the SLP to foster an environment of peace, lawfulness, and mutual respect throughout the political landscape.

The commission further encouraged other stakeholders and institutions to emulate the SLP’s example by upholding democratic values and protecting the rights and freedoms of all citizens during political events.

As Sierra Leone progresses on its democratic journey, the partnership between the PPRC and the police remains key to ensuring credible and peaceful political processes that reflect the will of the people.
