The Sierra Leone Police, under the leadership of the Regional Police (Regpol) Commander East, Commissioner Andrew. M. Kamara, have recently conducted a significant raid in and around the Kenema municipality in what was considered a decisive move to enhance security and curb rising crime rates.

According to the Regpol East, the operation which was well planned and executed, aimed at addressing various criminal activities that have been affecting the district. Officers from the Kenema Division supported by personnel from the Regional Headquarters and Community Safety Volunteers (CSVs) swept through key areas known for illicit activities, including drug trafficking and gang related violence. He further disclosed that the operation was a clear indication of the Inspector General’s zero tolerance policy on crime.

Emphasizing the importance of the operation, the Local Unit Commander, Kenema Division, CSP Edison Vandi, revealed that the said raid was geared to ensuring community safety and police commitments to restoring peace in the region. He noted that the SLP’s primary goal is to ensure the safety and security of citizens. He further informed that the operation saw the arrest of several suspects including nine (9) hardcore criminals that were recently released from Kenema Correctional Centre after serving their jail terms for heinous crimes, ranging from house breaking to armed robbery.

In addition to the arrest, the police also engaged with community members during the operation and encouraged them to report suspicious activities and collaborate with law enforcement to foster a safer environment.

The Regional Crime Officer, East D/ASP Mohamed Feika stated that good working relationship between the Sierra Leone Police, Kenema Division and community members could, to a large extent, help to identify and address the root causes of crime rather than just responding to incidents after they occur. He therefore called on the community to help the police by giving out relevant information. He reminded the public that community policing is a proactive approach to law enforcement that involved in building strong relationships between police officers and the community they served.
