The Parliamentary Oversight Committee on National Commission for Social Action (NaCSA) and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) chaired by Hon. Abdul Latif Sesay of the All People’s Congress (APC) party representing the people of Port Loko District, Northern Sierra Leone on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at committee room one Parliament building, conducted a hearing with Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs).
Delivering his welcome remarks, Hon. Abdul Latif Sesay stressed the crucial role NGOs play in supporting national development, underscoring the importance of NGOs’ operations in the country and asking them to continue to work in the interest of the State.
During the hearing, Members of Parliament cautioned witnesses from the various NGOs to furnish them with essential documents, including financial statements, status reports, Service Level Agreements (SLA), and audit reports, among other relevant documents to the hearing.
MPs observed that some NGOs were operating without SLA, others were unable to produce status reports, and others were without financial statements and other important documents that the Committee had earlier requested. It was also discovered that some NGOs were not following the due diligence.
After the hearing, some NGOs, including Plan International, People’s Development Foundation, and World Vision, amongst others, demonstrated positive outcomes and justification for their activities. For many, it was observed they were working in line with the national development agenda.
Representatives of Plan International Sierra Leone told Members of Parliament that they had SLA for projects, with the Ministry of Education. It was revealed that one of the projects, Teachers Training for Inclusive Girls Education, had transformed many dropped-out students into volunteer teachers among other Non-Governmental Organizations who made an impressive presentation to the committee.
