In an effort to combat drugs abuse especially Kush in Sierra Leone, Hon. Mohamed Papa Bangura representing the people of Bombali District, North east region has embarked on community engagement/sensitisation within his district and surrounding communities.
On Friday, 22nd March 2024, the All People’s Congress party member of Parliament engaged stakeholders from Gbanti chiefdom in Bombali district, Makeni city to educate them about the impact of the intake of kush and its related drugs. The gathering was held in Pailap, the Chiefdom headquarter aimed to strategize and collaborate with local authorities to tackle the pervasive issue of Kush consumption and distribution within the chiefdom, the district and the country at large.
During his presentation, Hon. Bangura expressed grave concern over the detrimental effects of the intake of Kush on young people in his chiefdom while urging authorities the need for urgent action, saying he is determined and dedicated to eradicating Kush from his district and reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing all lawful means to combat the drug. “We are resolute in our determination to eradicate Kush from our community while respecting the rights of all individuals,” he declared.
The Bombali district lawmaker urged all stakeholders to remain vigilant and resolute in the fight against Kush emphasizing the critical importance of safeguarding the emerging young generation.
The meeting saw a unanimous commitment from attendees including chiefs, youth leaders, and Chair ladies, to actively support and participate in the ongoing efforts to rid their communities of Kush.
