The Executive Director of the National Sports Authority, Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai Esq., has lavished compliments on Scrabble Association for bringing home laurels and promised the sporting outfit the Authority’s support.

He made this disclosure during a meeting with the Executive Committee Members of the Sierra Leone Scrabble Association at his Signal Hill Road Office on Tuesday, 7th May, 2024.

“We are extremely proud of Emmanuel King Esq. and the Sierra Leone Scrabble Association for winning a gold medal at the African Games in Accra, Ghana. The NSA is very much proud to associate with your organization.

“The key mandate of the NSA is to register, regulate, monitor, and supervise all sporting associations in the country,” the NSA Boss said.

On Scrabble, Dr. Abdulai remarked that King’s game is a good mental sport that can easily reach the acme.

“We easily forget our heroes and heroines in sports. We need to pay attention to this aspect,” he pointed out.

In his rejoinder, the National President of the Sierra Leone Scrabble Association, Christian Asgill, said they have sent to the NSA a document containing details of all their programmes.

The Secretary General of the Sierra Leone Scrabble Association, Ibrahim Conteh, disclosed that they are going to stage a youth championship in December this year. “The youths are already in the Scrabble Academy,” he said, adding that they are in the process of forming school clubs across the country.  He admitted the difficulties involved in establishing regional clubs.

Sierra Leone’s Scrabble Gold winner Lawyer Emmanuel King said: “It was challenging to win a gold medal at the African Games in Ghana. The competition was full of the best athletes on the Continent.”
