Sierra Leone’s Commissioner General of the National Revenue Authority (NRA) Jeneba Bangura has informed journalists that the Authority is targeting about eighteen billion Leones (NLe18.9bn) for the year 2025, saying there is a steady improvement in revenue generation thus reflecting the commitment to implementing financial reforms aimed at making revenue generation profitable.
Speaking on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 during a government presser, Commissioner Bangura said since 2022 to now revenue has increased steadily close to one hundred percent (100%) saying revenue is more vegetable and that the state of the NRA is strong, noting in 2024, most of the reforms were implemented while given example to fuel marking. She added that the fuel marketing system focused on concession granted to mining companies something she said they were paying little tax on fuel while they maximize profit. “The new system will prevent this abuse” she remarked.
She furthered that, the National Revenue Authority has implemented about twenty-one (21) internal and external measures to help strengthen revenue generations while calling on citizens to support the government collectively their Goods and Services Tax (GST) receipt as part of their civic duty. “We at NRA have put on 21 measures in place and we are ready to create an impact” she assured.
According to her, before now most importers were not using the right documents to free their goods from the port but the new measures have stopped that.
She furthered that there is a newly launched mobile app available that would enable consumers to verify the authenticity of tax stamps on beverages, adding a digital platform integrated with telecommunications companies to provide real-time data that will enhance GST collection from Mobile Network Operators (MNOs).
