NO Ambulances for referrals in kailahun

 

 

Following a recent one-day accountability meeting held in Kailahun District by Health Alert one of the champions of health advocacy in the country, it was observed that the main government referral hospital in the district is nothing good to write about.

The hospital lacks pipe born water, adequate drugs for patient and no working ambulance for referral cases.

Speaking during the visit the CEO of Health Alert, Victor Lansana Koroma said the visit was to assess the hospital adding that the Kailahun government hospital is the main referrer government hospital in the district.

Mr. Koroma said during their engagement stakeholders from the health service delivery which includes the District Medical Officer, (DMO) District Health Sister1  (DHS1),  Matron, Partners in Health, Local Council Chief Administrator, DPOs , Civil Society and Media, pregnant women, Lactating mothers, Youths among others were present.

He said that after a comprehensive look at Health Service Delivery in the District, particularly the PHUs such as in Boidu CHC, Bandajuma CHC and Jojoima Health Centres and the Kailahun Government Hospital, it was observed that the main government referrer hospital in Kailahun has no working Ambulances for referrals.

“We also notice that there is inadequate Drug Supply, no electricity supply and that out-of-pocket payment by patients is very high. There is also inadequate supply of water, poor road network and a weak referral system as patients refuse to go after they have been referred to Kailahun Government Hospital or Segbwema hospital.  It was also disclosed that the hospital lacks inadequate staff personnel to man the facility,
