
His Excellency, President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, on Wednesday, 13 August 2025 welcomed the newly elected executive of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), led by President Mr. Babadi Kamara, at State House. The visit underscored the SLFA’s commitment to fostering peace, unity, and progress within the country’s football community.
Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai, Executive Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), commended the government’s consistent support for sports, your Government’s dedication to football has created opportunities for our youth both locally and internationally, while also boosting our tourism sector, under your leadership, we aim to ensure every district has an artificial turf field to identify and develop talent for our national teams, he said.
Minister of Sports, Madam Augusta James Teima, praised President Bio for his unwavering support of football and other sporting disciplines. She highlighted the unity and collaboration demonstrated by the new SLFA executive despite challenges during the recent congress. “On behalf of the Ministry of Sports and the NSA, I am proud to present the newly elected president and executive of the SLFA. I also commend the achievements of our national teams, particularly the Sierra Queens, winners of the recent WAFU Championship, alongside successes in basketball, gymnastics, and other sports, she stated.
SLFA President Babadi Kamara expressed gratitude to the President for his enduring commitment to football as a tool for national cohesion. Football knows no boundaries. Our executive team is the most inclusive in history, representing all regions and tribes. We are determined to lead transparently, engage sponsors, and strengthen the sport at all levels, he affirmed.
President Bio congratulated the new executive on their election and urged them to focus on tangible results. Football unites our nation, and my Government will continue to support its growth. I commend your early efforts to engage sponsors and encourage you to sustain this momentum. I also congratulate the Sierra Queens on their WAFU Championship triumph and look forward to celebrating their success, we will continue to invest in women’s football and other disciplines that bring honour to Sierra Leone, he said.
President Kamara also appealed for the expedited completion of the National Stadium, highlighting its importance in enhancing Sierra Leone’s performance in international competitions and providing a world-class venue for the Leone Stars and their supporters.
The courtesy call marked a positive start for the SLFA’s new executive, reinforcing a shared vision for football development, unity, and national pride.
