New Lawn Tennis

The new executive of the Sierra Leone Lawn Tennis Association lead by Andy Bam has been officially inaugurated at the Young Sportsmen Club (YSC) on the 16th November 2024. This happened after a protracted court case where the former president attempted to cling on to power even when his term had run out. At a well-attended ceremony which was graced by representatives from NSA, NOC and Ministry of Sports. The occasion, chaired by Amie Dumbuya got off to a sober and colourful start. ‘ Today is a game- changing moment for tennis in Sierra Leone as we are happy to gather here and inaugurate a new executive.’ This is the moment to celebrate as hope has returned to tennis after a very long court matter. A video of kids’ program support by Support Sports, based in the United States of America was shown highlighting plans to support the new executive.

In their respective speeches, the NOC, NSA and Ministry of Sports pledged to support the new executive of Andy Bam ‘ to revive tennis in Sierra Leone.’ In video displays of tennis ambassadors, Sam Jalloh, Charles Massally and others staying abroad, they all pledged to support the new executive of Andy Bam to succeed in reviving the sport in Sierra Leone. Of note was the video of Sam Jalloh who is part of the coaching staff of the Sierra Leonean- American, Francis Tiafoe who is playing world- class tennis for USA currently. Sam Jalloh told the gathering via video that he ‘ coming to Sierra Leone to develop coaching courses in tennis and organize tournaments.’ That they will tap into talents to get tennis stars, the likes of Serena Williams, Coco Gaugh etc.

In his keynote address, Ing. Andrew Karmoh Keili urged ‘ transparency and seriousness in running the tennis association to bring back memories of the good old days.’ Ing. Andrew Keili urged the new executive to start organizing national tournaments using corporate sponsorship. The event was climaxed by statement from the new president, Andy Bam where he promised to ‘ make the difference by tapping into young talents.’ He reminded the gathering that ‘ in his life time he has prioritized tennis over everything else and that is what had led me to fight hard just to revive tennis in Sierra Leone.’ He rounded up by thanking all those who supported the course.
