The Executive Director of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Sierra Leone (NDLEA-SL), has pledged full support to the Mister Kenema campaign against drugs and harmful substances in the Kenema District. He made the announcement today during a strategic partnership meeting aimed at strengthening community-led drug prevention efforts.
Speaking at the event, the NDLEA-SL Director emphasized the importance of the initiative, describing it as timely and fully aligned with the agency’s mandate, while I am not originally from Kenema, this district and its people are close to my heart, he noted, reaffirming the agency’s commitment to the campaign.
Under the partnership, 50 key stakeholders including school principals, students, parents, health and social workers, and youth leaders will be trained as Drug Coordinators. These coordinators will work within three categories: Drug Prevention Volunteers, School Drug Prevention Advocacy Volunteers, and Community Anti-Drug Advocacy Volunteers (CADAV), fostering a coordinated and holistic community response to drug abuse.
The initiative also marks the launch of the first-ever Drug Movement in the Eastern Region, positioning Kenema as a model for drug prevention and advocacy. King Fisher, the campaign’s lead organizer, stressed that full engagement from schools, communities, and youth structures will be essential to achieving the program’s goals, through collaboration and active participation, we can build a healthier, safer, and more resilient Sierra Leone, he said.
This partnership underscores a shared commitment to combating drug abuse at both community and district levels, setting the stage for sustainable prevention efforts across Sierra Leone.
