The National Youth Service (NYS), with support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Ministry of Youth Affairs, successfully organized a one-day entrepreneurship training for Batch 7 corps members at the Hennis Enterprise Hall in Torwama, Bo.
The training aimed to empower young people by promoting entrepreneurship as a key pathway to personal and professional development. A total of 100 corps members, of whom 70% were women, participated in the interactive session, which featured expert-led discussions on entrepreneurship, innovation, and financial literacy.
Mr. Mahmoud Javomo, one of the guest speakers, delivered an engaging presentation on the fundamentals of entrepreneurship. He highlighted essential traits such as innovation, resilience, adaptability, and risk-taking as critical components of building successful business ventures.
Another key session was facilitated by Dr. Emmanuel Dauda, Senior Lecturer at Njala University, who focused on financial management for entrepreneurs. Dr. Dauda provided participants with practical tools and strategies for budgeting, saving, and managing startup capital effectively.
The program was chaired by Mr. Sylvester A. Bewie, Director of Programmes, Recruitment, and Training at NYS, who was accompanied by his dedicated team. In his opening remarks, Mr. Bewie reaffirmed NYS’s commitment to equipping young people with the skills and knowledge needed to contribute meaningfully to national development.
Through capacity-building initiatives like this, we aim to prepare our corps members not just for employment, but for leadership and innovation, Mr. Bewie said.
Participants expressed deep appreciation for the training and pledged to apply the knowledge gained to future entrepreneurial ventures.
In support of the attendees, breakfast, lunch, and transportation allowances were provided to all corps members.
This initiative marks another step in NYS’s ongoing effort to support youth empowerment and economic resilience through practical training and development opportunities.
