The President of the Sierra Leone Police Wives Association (PWA), Mrs. Matilda Doris Sellu, has successfully concluded a nationwide tour of police barracks from 9 to 13 February 2026, reaffirming her commitment to transparency, accountability, and the welfare of police families. The tour aimed to update police personnel and police wives on the developmental progress achieved under her leadership since assuming office in 2022.

During the visit, Mrs. Sellu engaged in interactive sessions with police officers and their wives, focusing on strengthening and repositioning the Association for greater national impact. She highlighted key challenges identified during previous visits, including insufficient access to clean water, inadequate sanitation facilities, and limited support for small-scale economic empowerment initiatives.

Central to her leadership strategy, Mrs. Sellu emphasized the importance of social activities organized by police wives to raise funds for priority projects. Proceeds from these initiatives have already facilitated the construction of nine solar-powered boreholes in barracks across Freetown and the provinces, including Magburaka, Lunsar, Kailahun, Kenema, and Makeni. Additional projects include the construction of toilet and wash facilities at Kingtom Police Barracks, provision of microcredit loans to wives in eleven barracks, and technical and vocational training programs to empower women economically.

During her stop at Mile 91 Police Division on 13 February, Mrs. Sellu held a consultative meeting at the office of Local Unit Commander (LUC) Superintendent Ishmael Koroma, engaging personnel and their spouses. She expressed gratitude for the continued support of officers and highlighted ongoing plans to address pressing needs, including water supply and medical facilities.

A significant pledge from Mrs. Sellu during the Mile 91 visit was the provision of two water tanks for the barracks, ensuring reliable access to safe drinking water for residents. She also reported that the most recent PWA fundraising outing at Sugar Land Beach generated net proceeds of Le375,000, which have been carefully allocated to projects benefiting police wives and their families.

The tour provided an opportunity for open dialogue, with officers and police wives sharing feedback and making recommendations. Concerns were documented for future action, including maintenance of solar-powered boreholes and the need for reliable vehicles to support divisional operations. The Mammy Queen of Mile 91 Division, Madam Hawa Kella, praised the national Association’s initiatives and acknowledged the support of their spouses in facilitating local development.

Police officers across the country expressed appreciation for Mrs. Sellu’s transparency and inclusive approach, noting that her hands-on leadership, open-door policy, and regular updates have strengthened trust within the Association and the wider Sierra Leone Police (SLP) community.

The nationwide tour underscores the PWA President’s dedication to empowering police wives, promoting welfare programs, and ensuring equitable distribution of resources. Mrs. Sellu’s engagements reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to improving the living and working conditions of police families while fostering unity, accountability, and active participation in national development.

The PWA President’s tour will continue across other police divisions to extend these programs and further consolidate support for the Association’s mission.
