The Local Unit Commander (LUC) of the Kambia Police Division, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Mr. Sao Vandy, on Friday 9 January 2026, revisited the scene of a fatal road traffic accident at Rokupr Wharf as part of efforts to assess the area’s security network and strengthen safety measures.
The visit followed a tragic incident that occurred on Thursday, 8 January 2026, at about 5:30 p.m., involving a Renault van with registration number RC-6065. The vehicle, driven by Saidu Kamara of No. 4 Bonka Section, Kambia II, reportedly lost control and plunged into the Great Scarcies River with three passengers on board. Two male passengers, Amadu Conteh and Gbessay Sesay, both residents of Kamranka Village, were later recovered from the submerged vehicle and pronounced dead. The driver was rescued and is currently receiving medical treatment.
At exactly 10:00 a.m. on Friday, CSP Mr. Sao Vandy led a rapid response patrol team to the wharf, where he engaged key stakeholders, including traders, bike riders, marine officers, and transport operators, on security and safety concerns. He emphasized the need to maintain clear parking spaces within the wharf, cautioning against trading or parking motorbikes near designated boat docking areas.
The LUC also called on marine officers to ensure the availability and use of life jackets for passengers who regularly travel by boat, highlighting the importance of preventive measures to reduce water-related accidents. Traders and transport operators were urged to comply with wharf rules and regulations, maintain peace, and promptly report any suspicious or security-related activities to the police.*
Beyond the wharf, CSP Mr. Sao Vandy and his operations team conducted patrols and surveillance in the Bamio Luma community and along Massama Road, including a known hideout area called Banga Farm. During the operation, he issued a strong warning against the clandestine sale and consumption of illicit and harmful drugs, particularly tramadol, cannabis sativa, and cocaine.
Reaffirming the police commitment to public safety, the LUC assured residents of his continuous support in the fight against crime and pledged sustained security vigilance across the Kambia District.
