On April 25, 2025, Lansana Koroma, a 31-year-old motorbike mechanic, appeared before Magistrate Santigie Bangura at Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown. He faced a single count of larceny, contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act 1916, related to the theft of a motorbike and cash entrusted to him for repairs.
According to the particulars of the offense, on Monday, March 18, 2024, at Bandset, Kingtom Police Barracks in Freetown’s Western Area, Koroma, as a bailee, stole an XL motorbike with registration number AKL 220, valued at 45,000 Leones, and 800 Leones in cash, totaling 45,800 Leones. The items, entrusted to him by Mohamed Mansaray for repair purposes, were the property of Mansaray.
When the charge was read and explained to Koroma, no plea was taken initially, the prosecutor, Sergeant 3379 Ballay T., informed the court that the facts aligned with the charge and noted that Koroma had no previous criminal record.
Koroma, who was not legally represented, pleaded for leniency, asking the court to temper justice with mercy.
In delivering his judgment, Magistrate Bangura stated that he was satisfied that Koroma was guilty of the offense. By virtue of the sentence handed down on April 25, 2025, the magistrate sentenced Koroma to one year’s imprisonment. Additionally, he ordered Koroma to immediately refund the stolen motorbike and the 800 Leones in cash to Mohamed Mansaray, the rightful owner. And Lansana Koroma, a 31-year-old was sentence to one year imprisonment
