Mobility Sierra Leone Brings Relief to Persons with Disabilities in Moyamba

By Dadson A. Musa

Living with a disability in Sierra Leone is a daily struggle, especially when it comes to mobility. For many, the lack of access to affordable transportation not only limits movement but also hinders opportunities for meaningful work and social participation. The challenge is particularly severe in rural areas, where poverty is widespread and services are limited.

In a bid to address these challenges, Mobility Sierra Leone, a charitable organization based in Bo, has been working tirelessly to support persons with disabilities. With assistance from its international partner, Mobility Worldwide, the group has been donating specially designed mobile tricycles to ease mobility for those most in need.

In mid-September 2025, the organization extended its outreach to Moyamba town, where 15 mobile tricycles were donated to persons with disabilities. Speaking during the presentation, Mr. Lamin Mansaray, head of Mobility Sierra Leone, emphasized the importance of the initiative.

I understand the struggles of people with disabilities, especially those living in remote chiefdoms where traveling to Moyamba town or even moving around for daily activities is nearly impossible. These tricycles are meant to give them independence and dignity,” Mansaray said.

The event was attended by community stakeholders, local authorities, and the Minister of Social Welfare, Melrose Karmity, who commended the effort and underscored the importance of partnerships in supporting vulnerable groups.

“Government cannot do everything, Minister Karmity noted., that is why we appreciate the role of private organizations like Mobility Sierra Leone, who are complementing national efforts to improve the lives of persons with disabilities.

Beneficiaries expressed deep gratitude, with many highlighting how the tricycles would transform their daily lives enabling them to access schools, markets, health facilities, and livelihood opportunities. This donation marks another step in Mobility Sierra Leone’s mission to ensure that no one is left behind, reaffirming the belief that mobility is not a privilege but a fundamental right for all.
