The Ministry of Basic and Senior Secondary Education (MBSSE) has disclosed that it has received over Seventy Million Dollars from donor partners to support the free quality education project in Sierra Leone.

MBSSE Minister Conrad Sackey disclosed that the Ministry recently signed an agreement with World Bank involving Twenty Million Dollars for foundational learning and an agreement with Education Above All involving 13.7 Million Dollars.

He added that the Ministry has also signed another global partnership that approved about Forty Million Dollars which has helped in boosting the free quality education in Sierra Leone, noting that the free quality education is still a focus of the President Bio led government, adding that the Ministry intends to establish a partnership with parents and civil society organizations in order to boost the education sector in the country.

He said the Ministry is training teachers that will be aligned with the new school curriculum to maximize the profit of education for the citizens of Sierra Leone, while recognizing essential stakeholders such as the Teaching Services Commission, the West African Examination Council, Sierra Leone Library, among others.

He said part of his Ministry’s objectives is to strengthen institutional hope and align the new curriculum into the various educational sectors, adding the recruitment, retaining and development of excellent teachers, disclosing that the Ministry has recruited and replaced about 3,000 teachers and have promoted about 3,000 teachers across the country.

Detailing further about the Ministry’s strategic objectives, he said they are committed to reducing gender and other disparities, stating that twenty-seven percent of the teachers are females, something he said will increase the education of girls in the country. He also pointed out that access to education for persons living with disability is a key objective.

He disclosed that the WASSCE results will be released in the next two weeks while BECE results will be out by the end of next month.
