Magistrate Mustapha Briama-Jah of Magistrate Court No.2 in Kenema has sentenced Thirty-One (31) Years Old Alex Sovula, a Sierra Leonean Baber of Bunumbu 3 to Four Years (4 yrs.) Imprisonment or pay an alternative government fine of Seven Thousand New Leones (NLe 7,000.09).
The Accused was arraigned in Court for possession of Narcotics Contrary to Sec. 48 (1) of the Pharmacy and Drugs Act No.12 of 2001.
According to the Particulars of Offence, the Accused on March 27, 2024 at Taninahun Njeibla, Njaluahun Chiefdom, Kailahun Judicial District in the Eastern province of the Republic of Sierra Leone, was found in possession of Nineteen Sachets of Kush and One Hundred Wraps of Kush. He was sentenced to Four Years Imprisonment or pay an alternative government fine of Seven Thousand New Leones.
In his Judgement, Magistrate Mustapha Briama-Jah, having heard from the Prosecution the fact of the Case and record of the Accused, and having heard the Accused pleaded for mercy, he did not impose a Custodian Sentence but an alternative on the ground that he (Accused) was a family Man with little Children and have lost his wife.
Magistrate Brima-Jah Sentenced the Accused to 4 years imprisonment or pay NLe 7,000.00 to the State.
The matter was prosecuted by Police Inspector Aiah Mafinda Teh attached to the Legal and Justice Support Department at the Kenema Police Division whilst the Accused was represented by Defence Counsel, Patrick Kamara of Legal Aid Board for Kenema District.
