E.U. lauds A.U. for historic continental free trade pact, pledges support

MAJOR YAYAH BRIMA APPOINTED ACTING DEFENCE SPOKESMAN

Major Yayah Brima

I. The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) of Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) announced on Monday, 14th July, 2025 that with immediate effect, Major Yayah Brima should take over the Directorate of Defense Public Relations and Information as Acting Director.

II. As Acting Director, Major Brima will also double as the Mouthpiece of the Armed Forces – Defence Spokesman.

III. Until his appointment, Major Brima was serving as Media Operations Officer at Army Headquarters (AHQ).

IV. Major Brima has succeeded Colonel Issa Bangura, who proceeds to Tanzania for his Fellowship Course at the National Defence College (NDC).

V. Major Brima is not only a combatant military officer but also a trained and qualified teacher, journalist and lawyer. He holds a Higher Teacher’s Certificate (Secondary) specializing in English Language, Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Mass Communication specializing in Public Relations (FBC-USL) Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and Bar Final Certificate.

VI. Major Brima began his journalism career in 1997. He passed through the editorial hands of media brains like George Khoryama, Ahmed Bob Kanneh (of blessed memory), Paul Kinnei Joseph, Prince Salieu Brima (of blessed memory), Sheikh Bawoh, Thomas Vandi Gbow, Umaru Fofana et al.

VII. During his high school days at Government Secondary School, Kenema, Major Brima served as Head of the Students’ Press and Deputy Minister of Information and Broadcasting. At the then Eastern Polytechnic (now Eastern Technical University) in Kenema, where he pursued his Higher Teacher’s Certificate (Secondary), Major Brima served as Editor-in-Chief of the most vibrant students’ press, The Morning Post. He also became the Founder and President of the then Eastern Polytechnic Association of Journalists (EPAJ).

VIII. After serving as a teacher at his alma mater for two years, Major Brima was enlisted in the Armed Forces on 19th March, 2004. In that same year, he was commissioned as Second Lieutenant on 10th September at the Armed Forces Training Centre (AFTC) in Benguema.
