Haja Morie, a business woman residing at No. 63 Mariama Street in Kenema has been committed to High Court for further trial by Magistrate Sheka Kamara of Magistrate Court No.1 in Kenema.
The accused was going to stand trial in the High Court for fraudulent conversation contrary to Sec.20(i) (1V) (a) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the prosecution, the accused on Thursday, January 25, 2024 at Samie Foluma Village, Nongowa Chiefdom, Kenema District in the Eastern province of the Republic of Sierra Leone, fraudulently converted to her own used and benefit one hundred and two (102) five-gallon rubbers of palm oil valued at Twenty Thousand New Leones (NLe 20,000.00). She was charged to Court on four counts of fraudulent conversation.
In a similar development, the accused Haja Morie was fined One Thousand Five Hundred New Leones or go to jail for Twenty-Four months (24) for domestic violence contrary to Sec.2(1) of the Domestic Violence Act No.20 of 2007. Haja Morie on the above date and place, unreasonably disposed of moveable property, sixty-seven five-gallon rubbers of palm oil valued Twenty One Thousand, One Hundred New Leones (NLe 21,100.00), property in which Battu Sheku has interest in whom you (Accused) has a domestic relationship with elder Sister. The accused was arraigned in Court for Three Counts of Domestic Violence.
In his ruling, Magistrate Sheka Kamara fined the Accused Five Thousand New Leones (NLe 5,00.00) on Count One or go to Jail for Six (6) months, Five Thousand New Leones (NLe5,000.00) on Count Two and Five Thousand New Leones on Count Three or go to Jail for Six (6) Months and Twelve (12) Months respectively.
The total fine was One Thousand, Five Hundred New Leones (NLe 1,500.00) or go to jail for a term of Twenty-Four (24) Months Imprisonment.
The matters were prosecuted by Police Sergeant, Idrisa Davies on behalf of the State whilst the Accused was represented by Defence Counsel, Patrick Kamara of Legal Aid Board for Kenema District.
