Liberia President declares assets

President of Liberia Joseph NyumaBaokai has on Thursday, February 8th, 2024 declared his assets in adherence to the nation’s code of conduct which mandates all public officials to declare their assets upon assuming office.

President Boakai assets declaration took place at the headquarters of the Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) which resonates his previous promise to do. The new Liberian leader handed over documents said to contain his assets to the LACC’s Assets Declaration and Verification Officer, Patricia Banaba.

Addressing newsmen after his assets’ declaration, the Liberian head of state emphasized the importance of leaders leading by example for others to follow, stressing the need for Liberians to trust their leaders by what they do.

“We told the Liberian people that transparency and accountability was going to be the block the government would build on; we have to be clear with ourselves so that the future can be our judge by what we do today.” President Boakai noted

According to President Boakai, his asset declaration is in fulfilment of the commitment he made, stating that his government will implement what they have promised the Liberian people.  “My government is going to implement the will of the Liberian people.”  President Boakai stressed.

He reiterated his call for appointed officials as well as outgoing officials to adhere to the tenets of good governance and accountability at all levels by declaring their assets.
