In an exclusive interview with Politico, 2018 and 2023 presidential candidate for the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party, Dr. Samura Kamara has said, as a country,we should be more focused on development issues and not on issues that have great tendency to divide us as a country.

Speaking on the three-day dialogue, which has seen the APC elected lawmakers and local council representatives agree to take their seats, he said: “I think the dialogue is held for a historical nature, so was the agreement as the outcome of the dialogue. These were two historical moments in the political life of Sierra Leone. So that why I appreciate the effort of the mediators and also the willingness of the two parties to actually engage one another on a dialogue like this.

Dr. Samura further elucidated why he is elated about the outcome of the dialogue. He said: “I am happy simply because if you recall, after the 2023 elections we had a serious stalemate. Nothing is happening in the country. it is now close to four months. The economy is not moving, the political is becoming more and more tense, interpersonal rivalry, all of these are heightening. Political tension is heightening. But with the dialogue, everything is going to move forward.”

For the past three months, there have speculations and rumors around especially the APC supporters about the next political career of Dr. Samura Kamara. Depending on who you talk to, some will tell you that, Samura is not going to lead the party as flagbearer any more, while some say he still has chance to run/ lead the part (APC) in 2028 general elections. To clear the air, Politico Newspaper asked him whether he has any intention to run again as presidential flagbearer come 2028 general election.  He put it thus: “…it does not matter. As I said, it is a divine intervention; I will leave it up to God. I am not that type of person who is so desperate. All I know is that if it is the will of God that I continue to lead this party to at least what I want the party to be—to contribute to be a strong agent of changing the lives of people in Sierra Leone, so be it.
