Mustapha Dumbuya of Showfield in Kenema was arraigned before presiding magistrate Mustapha Briama-Jah of Magistrate Court No. 2 in Kenema for the possession of narcotics contrary to Sec. 48(1) of the Pharmacy and Drugs Act of 2001.

According to the particulars of offence, the accused on December 15, 2023, at Showfield, Nongowa Chiefdom, Kenema Judicial District in the Eastern province of the Republic of Sierra Leone, was found in possession of fifty(50) wraps of Kush. He pleaded guilty and begged for mercy.

In his ruling, Magistrate Briama-Jah, having heard from the prosecution submitting the fact of the case and record of the accused, and having heard from the defence counsel in his plead mitigation on behalf of the accused person who pleaded for mercy, the Magistrate did not give an alternate but imposed a custodian sentence on the ground that drugs, such as Kush, must not be entertained within the jurisdiction and Sierra Leone by extension. He therefore sent the accused to a jail term of four(4) years at the Sierra Leone Correctional Service (SLCS) in Kenema.

The matter was prosecuted by Police Inspector, Aiah MafindaTeh, attached to the Legal and Justice Support Department at the Kenema police Division whilst the Accused Person was represented by Defence Counsel, Patrick Kamara of Legal Aid Board for Kenema and Kailahun Districts.
