Chief Justice Komba Kamanda receiving a gift in Kono
On a sunny afternoon, amidst warm celebrations and a high-level delegation from Freetown, the Honourable Chief Justice, His Lordship Justice Komba Kamanda, his wife, Mrs. Sonia Sarah Komba Kamanda and two daughters, were warmly received in Tankoro Chiefdom, Kono District on Wednesday 15th October, 2025 by the Paramount Chiefs of Kono District to mark the homecoming of their illustrious son.
Kono District, one of Sierra Leone’s most ethnically diverse regions, is home to various ethnic groups including the Madingo and Kono people. Renowned for its vast diamond resources, the district has been the country’s largest diamond producer since the 1930s, following the landmark discovery of one of the largest diamonds and the subsequent granting of exclusive mining rights during the colonial era in 1935.
Chief Justice Kamanda hails from Sao Chiefdom in Kono District, born to Mr. and Mrs. Komba Kamanda, later relocating with his family to Kenema Town.
In a unified voice, all fourteen Paramount Chiefs of Kono District expressed their heartfelt appreciation to His Excellency, President Dr. Julius Maada Bio, for appointing the first Chief Justice from the Kono tribe, a momentous and commendable milestone for the district.
