In commemoration of World Milk Day, the Kingtom Police Hospital, in partnership with Premium Divine Company, reached out to 300 parents and children with nutritional support during a special event held at the hospital grounds in Kingtom, Freetown.
The beneficiaries included vaccinated police wives, community members, and their under-five children, who received essential nutritional products as part of the outreach. Premium Divine company, the producers of cowbell milk and other fortified dairy products, joined the hospital in marking the global day observed annually on June 1st to promote the importance of milk in human nutrition.
Before the distribution began, Mr. Lionel Thomas, team lead from Premium Divine, educated recipients on the nutritional value and safe usage of their products, he explained how milk consumption varies by age group and emphasized the importance of proper preparation, the amount of water used to prepare each sachet depends on individual taste preferences, particularly sugar levels,” he added.
Representing the hospital, ASP Dr. John Mumuneh Konteh highlighted the significance of the initiative, describing it as part of the hospital’s ongoing community outreach to promote child and maternal health.
Engaging with our community revealed a need for better nutritional education, Dr. Konteh said. Children and lactating mothers, in particular, require adequate nutrition to thrive. This collaboration ensures they get both the information and support they need.”
Dr. Konteh also used the occasion to raise awareness about the recent M-Pox outbreak, urging attendees to remain vigilant and adhere to public health protocols to prevent the disease from spreading. Each of the 300 beneficiaries received a pack of ten Cowbell milk sachets, and all under-five children were medically examined for signs of malnutrition, those identified with nutritional challenges were referred for free treatment at the hospital.
As part of the donation, Premium Divine Company also presented 20 cartons of Cowbell products to the hospital, which will be used in the treatment and recovery of malnourished children under the facility’s care. This initiative is seen as a critical step in fostering public-private partnerships that focus on nutrition, child health, and community wellbeing, particularly in underserved communities.
