A significant police-military security cooperation (POMIC) workshop took place in Kenema, Eastern Sierra Leone, on Friday, June 13, 2025, uniting personnel from the Sierra Leone Police, Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces, Sierra Leone Correctional Service, and National Fire Force. The event aimed to strengthen inter-agency collaboration and bolster national security through enhanced service delivery.

The workshop was officially launched by Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Francis Moses Tawer, Regional Police Commander for the East, who welcomed participants and assured their safety. He underscored the robust ties between security forces, stressing the necessity of joint efforts for peace. “Let us guard the trust that binds us, Tawer cautioned, urging vigilance against any betrayal of this partnership.

AIG Andrew M. Kamara, representing Inspector General of Police, echoed this call, highlighting the shared commitment to collaboration and encouraging officers to adopt this spirit within their ranks. Brigadier General George Mamuud Bangura, speaking for the Chief of Defence Staff, emphasized that unity and synergy are vital for effective security management, reinforcing the workshop’s purpose.

The Eastern Region Provincial Security Coordinator (PRoSEC) delivered a keynote address, praising the established security framework and urging stakeholders to sustain Sierra Leone’s peace. Presentations explored the civil war’s historical impact, POMIC’s origins, collaboration challenges, and improvement strategies, fostering robust dialogue.

The event concluded with a unified pledge to uphold POMIC principles, committing all participants to enhance regional security. As the nation reflects on this progress tonight at 09:50 PM GMT, this workshop marks a promising step toward a safer Sierra Leone.
