The residents of Kasire Town in Samu Chiefdom, Kambia District, on December 13, 2024 witnessed a transformative milestone as their community was powered up with a 66.6-kilowatt solar installation. This achievement marks a significant stride in Sierra Leone’s commitment to sustainable energy.
The Sector Lead for Energy and Chairman of the Energy Governance Coordinating Group, Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella, spearheaded this project in collaboration with the Sustainable Energy Force. The official commissioning of the solar installation brought joy and renewed hope to the people of Kasire Town.
“This is a promise fulfilled,” Dr. Yumkella stated during the inauguration ceremony. He emphasized that the project aligns with the vision of His Excellency, President Retired Brigadier Julius Maada Bio, to enhance energy access in rural communities and drive national development.
The solar installation is set to provide a stable and sustainable energy supply, fostering improved living conditions and unlocking economic opportunities in Kasire Town. The initiative reflects the government’s dedication to expanding clean energy access across the nation.
Residents expressed gratitude for this transformative project, which they believe will significantly improve their quality of having reliable electricity for the first time will change how we live and work,” said a delighted community leader.
