The Chairman of Kambia District Council, Mr. Mohamed Masarico Mansaray, on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, has called an emergency council meeting to tackle critical challenges facing the district. The agenda includes the recent Mpox outbreak, tax compliance, and the need for improved coordination in the education sector.

Mr. Mansaray disclosed that Kambia has recorded 41 confirmed Mpox cases, sparking significant public health concerns. He underscored the urgent need for funding to launch sensitization campaigns to curb the disease’s spread. This is a serious matter. The public must be educated on Mpox its nature, transmission, and prevention, he urged, appealing for support to enhance awareness and containment efforts.

The Chairman also emphasized tax compliance as a cornerstone of sustainable development, urging residents and businesses to meet their obligations, tax revenue is vital for upgrading infrastructure, health services, and education, he said, paying taxes is a shared responsibility, not a favour to the government.

Addressing education, Mr. Mansaray expressed alarm at the rising trend of community-led educational initiatives bypassing council involvement, such actions disrupt coordination and alignment with district policies, he warned, insisting on the council’s inclusion in all educational planning.

He concluded by rebuking sector heads for their absenteeism at meetings, calling it unacceptable and a barrier to progress,” signalling a demand for greater accountability.
