Sierra Leone’s first international professional footballer to Europe, veteran superstar and national hero, John Dumbuya doles millions of old Leones to society on behalf of the JOHN DUMBUYA CHARITY FOUNDATION in pursuit of actualizing his support towards humanity.
John, a veteran striker of one of Sierra Leone’s top-notch football clubs, Eastern Lions and Leone Stars fame, who was recently awarded in absentia as *Humanitarian* of the Leicester Road community was highly extolled by elders of that community for his moral and financial contributions towards development in their community.
The leaderships of both Christian and Muslim faiths expressed their appreciation to him and encouraged him to continue his good work for the sake of God and mankind. Similarly, the Chairman of Eastern Lions Football Club, Ambassador Anthony Navo Jnr. in a radio talk show moderated by Sierra Leone’s icon Mohamed Kallon expressed his gratitude to John Dumbuya for his support towards the club.
In another development, Bishop Benjamin Bangura of the National Pentecostal Church at Fort Street extolled JD for his unflinching financial support towards the magnificent edifice under construction at Fort Street. In a well-attended fellowship on Sunday 28th April, 2024, Bishop Bangura expressed satisfaction over John’s support over the years and offered special prayers for his foundation to flourish and for God’s guidance and protection.
With enthusiasm, John dished out one thousand dollars towards the building project, which was highly appreciated by the congregation with an appreciable applause.
Conclusively, John attended the auspicious launching of the Sierra Leone Heroes Foundation at the New Brokefields Hotel in Freetown attended by a galaxy of veteran footballers and distinguished personalities including Thomas Daddy Brima, President of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Babadi Kamara, Chairman of Bo Rangers Football Club, who doles Two hundred million old Leones to the Heroes Fund and Ambassador Junior Bio, amongst others. As usual, Join Dumbuya donated the sum of One thousand dollars (U.S 1000) towards the Heroes Foundation Trust Fund. Amongst other veteran players who donated monies included: Mr Dangawali, Junior Parade, Darlington Tucker, Issa Pikin Pele, Ibrahim Sudan, John Sama, Tibaty Kanu, and renowned journalist Mr Daniel Oldfield. Also in attendance were Apolo Lawson, Captain Abu Bakarr Tostao KAMARA, Ono Metzger, Baby Whitman, Abu Gbanaloko Kanu, John Ajina Sesay, and Musu Pele, amongst others. The event was zoomed for the attention of those in the diaspora. The Chairman of the occasion Mr Abu Bakarr Kamara, aka ABK expressed appreciation to all who in diverse ways made the event a success.
John is expected to visit Tonkoh Limba Chiefdom in the Kambia District, his maternal home and also witness the launch of the Peninsula Strikers Fundraising ceremony on Friday 3rd May 2024, before his departure to the United States on Tuesday 7th May 2024. It is expected that he will have to donate football jerseys and other equipment to his compatriots. It is worth to know that the scholarship scheme is in progress at the Leicester Road Community and same is expected to be replicated elsewhere in Sierra Leone.
