IG Sellu Engages Saudi Ambassador to Strengthen Police Ties

 

 

 

In a significant diplomatic gesture, Sierra Leone’s Inspector General of Police, Mr. William Fayia Sellu, June 4, 2025 paid a courtesy visit to the Royal Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Freetown on Wednesday. The meeting aimed to deepen collaboration between the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) and the Saudi Embassy, reinforcing ties that could enhance security and public safety across the nation.

The discussions between IGP Sellu and His Excellency Ambassador Ali Ibrahim Alheji centered on strengthening security frameworks in Sierra Leone. Both leaders underscored the critical role of mutual cooperation in tackling crime effectively. They reaffirmed their commitment to sustained partnership, laying the groundwork for future joint initiatives.

IGP Sellu highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance the SLP’s capacity, specifically requesting training opportunities in forensic analysis and other specialized areas. He also provided an update on the Force’s transformation into a service-oriented institution, outlining key reforms aimed at improving efficiency and public trust.

Ambassador Alheji commended the Sierra Leone Police for their unwavering dedication to maintaining security amid global challenges. He praised the leadership’s efforts and reiterated Saudi Arabia’s readiness to bolster bilateral relations. Expressing keen interest in supporting personnel development, the ambassador proposed a visit to the Police Academy to identify potential areas for intervention, signaling a proactive approach to enhancing cooperation.
