The Moyamba Human Rights Defenders Network (Moyamba HRDN) has called for an urgent and impartial investigation into the brutal killing of Alex Foyoh Will, who was allegedly beaten to death in an act of mob justice in Rotifunk, Bumpeh chiefdom, Moyamba District.
In a press release dated October 25, 2025, the human rights group expressed deep concern over the incident, describing it as a grave violation of human rights and a disturbing reflection of growing public distrust in Sierra Leone’s justice system.
According to the statement, credible eyewitness accounts and video footage reveal that the deceased was attacked by a group of individuals on October 24, 2025, after he allegedly failed to purchase Tramadol with money reportedly given to him by others. The assault, which was captured on video and widely circulated on social media, resulted in his death.
This issue must be addressed urgently to hold accountable those responsible for this reprehensible act and to safeguard the fundamental human rights of all individuals, the statement read.
The Moyamba HRDN urged the Sierra Leone Police and other law enforcement authorities to act swiftly and impartially to ensure that all suspects involved in the killing face the full force of the law. The group warned that mob justice continues to undermine peace, justice, and the rule of law especially in rural areas where public confidence in formal justice systems remains weak.
The network commended the Moyamba Police Division for its prompt response in dispatching officers to the crime scene and confirmed that an autopsy was conducted by medical practitioners from Freetown to support the ongoing investigation.
Beyond seeking justice for the victim, the organization urged the police to engage local communities through sensitization campaigns about the dangers of mob justice and the importance of respecting due process.
We also urge the police to undertake continuous community engagement programs to educate the public on the impact of mob justice and the civic responsibility to uphold the rule of law, the HRDN added.
The organization further called on the Government of Sierra Leone to strengthen the criminal justice system and rebuild public trust, emphasizing that effective justice delivery and accountability are essential to preventing future acts of extrajudicial violence.
The Moyamba Human Rights Defenders Network reaffirmed its commitment to working with state institutions, traditional authorities, and community stakeholders to promote human rights, justice, and accountability across the district.
