A human rights activist of Amnesty International Sierra Leone who also served as a member of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ)in the person of Sumarine Thompson Fatorma was manhandled by one police officer, PC 19887 Mustapha Konneh at Daru police station. Mustapha Konneh assaulted this activist because he called him Konneh instead of Mr. Konneh. Failure to call PC 19887 Mustapha Konneh as Mr. Konneh, resulted to serious beaten, violence and humiliation on the victim’s right at the CDIID Office in Daru.

News from an unimpeachable source told Expo Times, Mohamed Mansaray in Kenema that the aforementioned activist went to seek bail for a school pupil in Daru who was about to write his BECE examination. He was rescued by one Complaint Discipline and Internal Investigation Department (CDIID) Officer. He had wanted to make a statement at the Charge Office after he was manhandled by the police officer but was not allowed to do so. PC 19887 Mustapha Konneh took the book and went away with it. He made a report at CDIID Office and was issued a medical paper which was endorsed. He was examined at the Community health centre in Daru. Upon the completion of the examination of the victim by the Incharge health officer, he entered his report at the CDIID Office and his case file was handed over to the Local Unit Commander (LUC) Daru police station on July26,2024.

The LUC promised to transfer the matter to the Regional Police Headquarter in Kenema. The Media and the Human Rights Activists in this part of the Country are now calling on the Leadership of the SLP through Expo Times to bring the officer involved to book to demonstrate the Force’s abhorrence and condemnation of such unprofessional behaviour.
