In a remarkable show of leadership and commitment to community development, Honorable Ishmael Sankoh Yillah has donated over 30 solar streetlights to Constituency 074, Lokomasama Chiefdom, Port Loko District. This initiative, branded “Light is Life,” aims to improve security, promote economic activity, and enhance the daily lives of residents.

On Saturday, March 15, 2025, residents of Petifu Junction, Lokomasama Chiefdom, gathered to witness the official commissioning of the 1.5-kilometre solar streetlight installation project. The event attracted key stakeholders, including Paramount Chief Bai Marro Raka III, the Chiefdom Speaker, SLPP Women’s Leader Madam Fatmata Conteh, Director of the Youth Service Commission Mr. Abass Kanu, and several SLPP district executives. District Chairman Edward L. Williams, who chaired the occasion, led a chorus of gratitude and commended Hon. Yillah for his unwavering commitment to development.

The donation was met with overwhelming appreciation from the people of Lokomasama, who lauded Hon. Yillah as more than just a politician—a humanitarian and a leader of action. Many residents acknowledged that he has not only fulfilled promises but has also taken proactive steps to effect real, lasting change in the chiefdom.

Paramount Chief Bai Marro Raka III, in his address, emphasized the importance of unity and vigilance in safeguarding the newly installed lights. He reminded the people that Hon. Yillah represents everyone in Lokomasama, regardless of political affiliation, and urged the community to take collective responsibility for maintaining the project. “Development projects like ‘Light is Life’ should be seen as collective achievements, and their sustainability must be a shared responsibility,” he stated.

In his speech, Hon. Ishmael Sankoh Yillah reaffirmed his commitment to his constituents, explaining that his motivation stems from a deep sense of duty to support his brother, mentor, and Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, while also working to strengthen the SLPP’s presence in the region. He encouraged young people to remain patient and resilient, assuring them that better days are ahead.

The “Light is Life” project is more than just an infrastructure development; it is a symbol of progress, safety, and a brighter future for Lokomasama Chiefdom. It demonstrates the power of purpose-driven leadership and serves as a model for other communities in need of similar interventions.

As Lokomasama embraces this transformation, Hon. Yillah called on the people to protect, sustain, and expand upon this progress. His efforts reflect a broader vision for sustainable community development and the belief that true leadership is measured by actions, not just words.

Paramount Chief Bai Marro Raka III concluded the event with a heartfelt message: “This is the kind of leadership Sierra Leone needs—visionary, selfless, and people-centred.” He expressed hope that this project would mark the beginning of even greater transformations for Lokomasama Chiefdom.
