Hon. Alpha Ben Mansaray, a Member of Parliament from the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) representing Moyamba District, has called on the Ministry of Energy to adopt stronger measures to curb the growing theft of electric cables and other essential components from transformers across Sierra Leone.

Speaking during a parliamentary session on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, Hon. Mansaray emphasized that blame games would not solve the issue, urging instead for proactive and strategic interventions. “Casting blames will not solve the problem,” he stated, adding that “implementing effective preventive strategies will save the government millions of Leones in replacement costs and help ensure a stable and uninterrupted power supply across the country.”

The lawmaker urged the Ministry of Energy to adopt modern and cost-effective security mechanisms to safeguard the nation’s electricity infrastructure. He specifically proposed the installation of metal fencing around transformers to deter unauthorized access and vandalism.

Hon. Mansaray noted that if such measures are properly implemented, they would significantly reduce losses, minimize frequent power interruptions, and enhance public confidence in the government’s management of the energy sector.

He also cautioned against politically motivated accusations, describing claims that opposition members were behind the destruction of transformers as “baseless and unhelpful.”

The focus should be on practical solutions that protect our national assets and ensure reliable electricity for all Sierra Leoneans,” Hon. Mansaray stressed.
