A leading health-focused nonprofit formerly known as Action Against Cancer has officially rebranded as wellness and NCD Initiatives, marking a strategic expansion of its mission to address a broader range of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in Sierra Leone.

The organisation announced that the name change takes immediate effect and reflects its widened scope beyond cancer to include diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, chronic respiratory conditions, and other lifestyle-related illnesses that continue to place increasing pressure on the country’s health system.

Over the years, Action Against Cancer has built a strong reputation for community outreach, public education, and support services for individuals affected by cancer, according to the organisation’s team tead, Sulaiman Stom Koroma, the decision to rebrand was driven by the rising national and global burden of NCDs and the need for a more comprehensive public health response.

Under its new identity, wellness and NCD initiatives aims to scale up advocacy across the full spectrum of NCDs, strengthen health education and awareness campaigns, promote healthy lifestyles, and deepen partnerships with government agencies, healthcare institutions, and development partners.

Mr. Koroma stressed that cancer prevention and patient support will remain a core component of the organisation’s work.

This rebranding does not signal a departure from our original mission,” he said. “Rather, it enhances our ability to make a broader and more meaningful impact on public health and community well-being in Sierra Leone and beyond.

He also expressed appreciation to the organisation’s partners, donors, and community members for their continued support, and called for sustained collaboration as the organisation moves forward under its new banner.
