Freetown West Commander Drives Key Drug Bust on Taylor Street

By Emma Black

In a major blow to drug manufacturing networks, the Regional Police Commander for Freetown West, assistant inspector general of police (AIG) Sylvester M.N. Koroma, played a pivotal role by providing critical intelligence and operational support to the transnational organised crime unit (TOCU) during a raid on a suspected narcotics production site. The operation targeted a three-storey building on Taylor Street, Fourah Bay Road, executed on Friday, June 13, 2025.

The raid was triggered by intelligence revealing the premises as a hub for producing Kush and other dangerous narcotics. Acting decisively, AIG Koroma authorized the deployment of police personnel, ensuring a swift and coordinated response. Chief Superintendent of Police Mohamed Krugba Alieu, head of TOCU, led the tactical team in a meticulous search of the unoccupied structure, uncovering a significant haul of suspected narcotic substances, liquid chemicals, gas masks, and digital scales clear evidence of active drug manufacturing.

Emphasizing transparency and community involvement, authorities invited local stakeholders to witness the operation. However, the identities of the occupants and the property’s ownership remain unknown, leaving key questions unresolved. AIG Koroma noted, this action underscores our commitment to public safety through open policing.

Investigations are ongoing to dismantle the broader network behind this illicit activity, with authorities vowing to pursue all leads, this operation highlights a growing crackdown on narcotics, building on recent efforts to address Sierra Leone’s drug crisis.
